Guardian Announces Record 2018 Earnings and Capital Levels

$1.6 billion in earnings and year-end capital of $8.5 billion support the largest ever participating policyholder dividend

NEW YORK, N.Y., March 25, 2019 – The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America^® (Guardian), a mutual life insurer and a leading provider of whole life, dental, individual disability income insurance and employee benefits, today announced 2018 year-end results that included record earnings and capital levels.

Guardian had $1.6 billion in operating income before taxes and dividends to policyholders; achieved strong risk-based capital results of 514%; paid out $6.3 billion in benefits to policyholders and had $667 billion of life insurance in force. The company ranks in the top five of the whole life market with a 6% share, and fourth in Group Life, Dental, and Disability with a 6.5% share of combined sales.
