Colorado Paid Family Leave updates
It’s hard to believe we are about 9 months from the launch of Colorado’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program. Here are several updates and reminders for employers.
As we mentioned in a previous blog post, all Colorado employers need to register their business on the My FAMLI+ Employer portal before April 30, 2023. Employers with employees in Colorado must remit premiums to the state. Q1 premiums are due April 30, 2023 and will be remitted via My FAMLI+ Employer
The Colorado Division of Insurance is now accepting rate and form filings from insurance carriers. Guardian is actively working through the filing process. What does this mean for employers? The FAMLI Division is also planning to begin accepting applications for private plan exemptions in the coming weeks. Once Guardian’s rates and forms are accepted, employers wishing to purchase a fully insured private plan from Guardian will be positioned to apply for their private plan.
On February 13th, the FAMLI Division announced an extension to the voting deadline for local governments wishing to opt out of the program. Local governments now have until March 31, 2023 to complete the necessary vote to opt of the program and avoid remitting premiums for first quarter 2023. More information about this announcement can be found here.
