NEW YORK, N.Y., November 29, 2017 – The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America® (Guardian) today announced that Andrew J. McMahon will join the company as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Customer Development. This newly created role strengthens Guardian’s commitment to a wholistic customer-focused approach across all its business lines.

McMahon will be responsible for developing enterprise strategy, corporate development and advancing digital customer experience. He will be a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team and report to Deanna Mulligan, Guardian's President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Our customers expect and deserve an outstanding experience as we deliver on our commitment to serve their financial needs,” said Ms. Mulligan. “I am confident Andrew will build on the great work already being done at Guardian, and create new opportunities that benefit all of our customers.”

McMahon is an insurance industry veteran, formerly President and board member of AXA US.  Prior to his AXA tenure, he was a partner at McKinsey.  McMahon began his career at General Electric and worked in a variety of functions across several operating businesses. During the past four years, he has invested, launched and advised several InsureTech companies, including recently having been granted a patent for an approach using AI for financial risk assessment and insurance underwriting.

“Guardian is a company I have admired for years, especially the way it has been led with unparalleled integrity while delivering exceptional results to customers, advisors and employees.” said McMahon. “Currently, there are incredible opportunities for innovation in the industry. I’m excited about working with Deanna and the leadership team to set the course and lead transformative initiatives for the company.”

McMahon has most recently served on the board of directors of Phoenix Life Insurance Companies (PNX:US) before and after the sale to NassauRe. He has also served on the boards of AXA US, Alliance Bernstein (AB:US), and the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI).  He is an executive advisor to Gryphon Investors and a member of the board of trustees for Fairfield University. He received his MBA from Columbia University and BS in computer science from Fairfield University.
