CT PFML Private Plan Exemption Renewal Process

Many CT PFML private plan exemptions will expire December 31, 2023.

  • All employers with private plan approvals effective January 1, 2021, will expire as of December 31, 2023, following their 3-year approval period.

    • These employers need to file a new private plan application for approval which will require them to complete the same process as if it were new business. The process includes:

      • Plain Language Guide

      • Conducting a New Employee Vote

      • Uploading Copy of the face page of the Guardian CT PFML active policy

Timeline

  • Deadline for Renewal Approval: December 1, 2023, so renewal applications should be submitted no later than November 15, to allow sufficient time for the state.

  • Deadline to Terminate Private Plan: October 3,2023.

Important Note: Failure to take action to renew a Private Plan prior to the expiration of the current approval will result in a return to the State program and a potential penalty for failure to provide advance notice to the CT Paid Leave Authority.
