Thomas G. Sorell, CFA

Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer

Thomas G. Sorell, CFA, is Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer of Guardian and Guardian subsidiaries. He is responsible for the firm’s investment policy and strategies for more than $65 billion in assets. This includes investments in both public and private equity, fixed income, and commercial real estate. He is also a Director of Lowe Enterprises Investment Management, a national real estate investment services and fund management company.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Sorell served as Senior Managing Director, Head of Guardian’s Fixed Income Department, and Co-Portfolio Manager of a number of Guardian-sponsored fixed income funds. He joined Guardian in 1994 from White River Corporation, where he served as Director of Fixed Income. Prior to that, he held investment management positions at Fund American Enterprises, Inc. and AIG Investment Advisors, as well as institutional fixed income sales and research positions at Drexel Burnham Lambert & Co. and Kidder, Peabody & Company.

Mr. Sorell holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and an MBA from New York University. He has a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of the Fixed Income Forum, ACLI-CIO Board of Advisors, CFA Institute, and the New York Society of Security Analysts. He also is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Forman School in Litchfield, CT, a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school for students with identified learning differences.
