Executive Vice President, Individual Markets

Chris Dyrhaug is an Executive Vice President, Individual Markets at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. In this role, he leads an organization, which combines the products and services that Guardian provides directly to individual customers primarily through our general agency distribution channel.  These include life insurance, disability, annuities, and wealth management products and services.  

Previously, Mr. Dyrhaug served as Head of Individual Markets Administration and Wealth Management at Guardian. Here he was responsible for the administration and operational aspects across the Individual Markets organization, including Operations, Service, Supervision, and Agency Finance Administration. Additionally, he was responsible for Park Avenue Securities (PAS), Guardian’s Wealth Management Business.

Mr. Dyrhaug joined Guardian in December 2013 as a Vice President and Managing Director of Individual Markets. During this time he was responsible for providing critical leadership and vision to develop and execute on a wealth management strategy, transforming PAS into a best-in-class, competitive broker-dealer.

Mr. Dyrhaug has 25 years of industry experience. Of those, 20 years were spent with Smith Barney, which became Morgan Stanley as a result of the joint venture in 2009. He served in an integral leadership role during the conversion of Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley, and last served as the COO for the International Wealth Management Division, a business line with $80B in assets and $500M in revenue.

Much of Mr. Dyrhaug’s time in the industry has been spent working in Smith Barney’s retail branch office network including stops in Maryland, St. Louis, Chicago and Denver.  He has worked in various industry capacities, including as a Financial Advisor, in support and operational roles, various management positions, and corporate leadership roles.

Mr. Dyrhaug obtained his BA in Finance from Eastern Illinois University in 1992.
