Guardian Announces New Appointment David W. Allen as Senior Vice President, Individual Markets
New York, September 20, 2004— The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) is pleased to announce that David W. Allen (Dave), 47, has been appointed Senior Vice President, Individual Markets. Mr. Allen joined Guardian in June 2004.
As Senior Vice President, Individual Markets, Mr. Allen is responsible for driving the profitable growth of Guardian's life insurance business. Allen oversees all aspects of Guardian's life insurance business, including Product Development; Sales, Agency Distribution and Development; Advanced Planning and Professional Services; Underwriting, Claims and Operations; Actuarial; and Financial Reporting. He reports to Gary Lenderink, Executive Vice President, Risk Management Products.

Mr. Allen has 25 years of insurance industry experience. Prior to joining Guardian he held executive positions in product management, distribution strategy, marketing, and financial management at companies such as MetLife, New England Financial and Phoenix Life. Mr. Allen is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colby College and also studied at the London School of Economics. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
