Guardian Life Insurance Names Robert E. Broatch CFO
NEW YORK, July 15, 2002 - The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America announced today that Robert E. Broatch, 53, has joined the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Broatch comes to Guardian with a wealth of experience in senior financial positions of major public insurance companies, including UnumProvident and Aetna.
At Guardian, Broatch will focus on corporate financial issues, including planholder value, planning and enterprise-wide risk management. He will also offer support with corporate strategy and operational issues.

Most recently, Broatch was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at the GAB Robins Group of Companies—a provider of loss adjusting, third party administration and managed care services. Prior to joining GAB Robins Group, Broatch was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the UnumProvident Corporation in Portland, ME, a disability and special risk insurance holding company. At UnumProvident, Broatch served as a member of the senior management group and the company's operating committee. Previously, Broatch held senior financial posts with Aetna, Inc., Primerica and Hartford Insurance Group.
Broatch has a B.A. in Economics from Trinity College and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
