"The Voice of IT Management" Recognizes Jaime Sguerra for Creativity, Business Savvy in 6th Annual Awards Program
NEW YORK, N.Y., January 20, 2005 — The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York, NY, today announced that Jaime Sguerra, Second Vice President/Chief Architect and Senior Business Systems Officer for Corporate Marketing, has been recognized by IDG's Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management," as one of the business world's Premier 100 IT Leaders. The award honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees, including Jaime Sguerra, were named and profiled in the January 3 issue of Computerworld and will be honored again at Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference, occurring March 6-8, 2005, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Jaime Sguerra was selected from nearly 600 nominees, each of whom were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by an external panel of outside judges. Other honorees include leading IT executives from corporations such as State Street Corp., UPS, Hewlett-Packard, Cardinal Health, MasterCard International LLC, Marriott International and AFLAC.

"Our Premier 100 list honors those who have kept fighting despite the many obstacles that technology has thrown at them this year," said Don Tennant, editor in chief, Computerworld. "These men and women have proven themselves through all facets of business, including some of the toughest challenges, such as cultural hurdles, language barriers, corporate politics, internal/external communication, and maintaining fresh, creative ideas. They think out of the box and do not cower away from difficult projects; rather, they embrace the struggle while foreseeing the opportunities it can bring in the future."

Since Jaime joined Guardian in 2001, he has led the IT enterprise architecture initiative as Chief Architect of the Information Technology Division. Even before its completion in early 2004, the multi-million dollar enterprise architecture has resulted in a 30% reduction in application development costs as well as a reduction in development time through the leveraging of reusable components. In his current role as Second Vice President/Chief Architect and Senior Business Systems Officer for Corporate Marketing, Jaime is also responsible for ongoing enhancements to the enterprise architecture; development of all cross-profit center applications; Research and Development; Document and Process Solutions; and coordination and integration of IT activities in support of Corporate Marketing. He has additional responsibility for Individual Markets' Straight Through Processing initiative for policy underwriting.

"This award speaks to Jaime's significant role in the transformation of IT at Guardian. His accomplishments have better equipped us to respond quickly to the changing needs of the businesses we support," said Dennis Callahan, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Guardian. "As a direct result of his efforts, we have achieved a greater integration of our IT systems, increased our leverage of IT investments, and improved our overall levels of reliability and performance."
The complete list of Premier 100 IT Leaders can be found in the January 3, 2005 issue of Computerworld and online at www.computerworld.com/p1002005.
