New York, April 19, 2006 —The National Association of Women Business Owners New York City (NAWBO® New York City) and The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) today announced a new alliance to help women entrepreneurs in New York City achieve and exceed their personal and professional goals. The relationship promotes a mutually beneficial business opportunity to better understand the needs and challenges faced by business owners in the New York area.
Guardian sponsored NAWBO New York City's program called Mentoring Advantage on January 31, 2006, which was such a success that they are now evaluating forming a formal mentoring program for women-owned businesses.
" The Center for Women's Business Research estimates that there are 333,107 women-owned businesses in New York City, and NAWBO New York City is committed to working with Guardian to promote their mentorship and diversity initiatives to assist these women in growing their businesses," said Melanie McEvoy, president of McEvoy & Associates. "I commend Guardian for their leadership on helping women entrepreneurs succeed in business."
On a national level, Guardian is also a National Patron of NAWBO and for 2006 will sponsor the NAWBO Membership Diversity Recruitment Initiative. This new initiative includes Spanish translation of NAWBO's Web site, www.nawbo.org. The translated Web site provides Latina women with additional business development resources as they develop their business plans and take their businesses to the next level. The Center for Women's Business Research states that 84 percent of Latina-owned businesses have growth as a primary goal, and NAWBO hopes to better serve this population with this new service.
Emily Viner, who serves as field vice president with Guardian, stated, "We are impressed with the NAWBO New York City organization and its support of women business owners and the community. Guardian values and promotes mentorship and diversity. We are also committed to understanding and meeting the unique needs of the small to midsize business market. The opportunities between us are boundless, and I expect to see positive results for both NAWBO New York City and Guardian in the coming year."
