Companies Now Have Greater Access to Coverage without Medical Underwriting
NEW YORK, November 16, 2009 — The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), one of the largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits for small and mid-sized companies, recently introduced guaranteed issue on its disability income insurance products for small business owners.
Employers with two to nine employees can now select disability products on a guaranteed issue basis, an option typically only available to larger employers. Guaranteed issue coverage allows employees to receive a level of insurance protection without having to complete a medical exam or undergo medical underwriting.
The company cites the value of income protection in today's economy and its commitment to giving small business owners large company benefits at affordable prices as reasons for the new enhancements.
"For smaller employers, providing life and disability coverage simply makes good business sense particularly at a time when many households dependent on two incomes have already been hit by job loss and economic decline," said Clancy Merrill, executive director, Guardian Small Group Sales and Strategic Alliances. "Employees have a heightened sense of the need for income protection and appreciate employers that offer disability and life insurance. Guardian offers a robust and affordable small group income protection package to level the playing field and help small business owners compete for talent with larger companies."
This enhancement complements guaranteed issue on life insurance products, which has been available to groups with two to nine employees for over a year.
A mutual insurer founded nearly 150 years ago, The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and its subsidiaries are committed to protecting individuals, business owners and their employees with life, long term care insurance, disability income, group medical and dental insurance products, and offer 401(k), annuities and other financial products. The company has more than 5,400 employees in the United States and a network of over 3,000 financial representatives in more than 80 agencies nationwide.
