Volunteers spent the day painting walls and murals in the community center's meeting rooms, adding new colors to brighten the lives of those who gather there on a daily basis.

"It was fulfilling because I knew I was giving a part of myself to help the local community," says Leslie Lawrence, Legal Assistant, Law Department Insurance Operations. "I think it's great that Guardian participates in these local community service events, helping to better the lives of our children and neighbors in the Greater New York area."

On May 5, 2012, volunteers from Guardian’s Midwest Regional Office in Appleton, Wisconsin, delivered a special birthday present to local resident Floyd Stegeman, who turned 90 in May. Mr. Stegeman's home makeover allows him to continue living in the house he’s called home since he and his father built it back in the 1940s.

This project was organized by Rebuilding Together, a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize homes and communities. The volunteer-based organization forms partnerships to rebuild and repair the homes of low-income homeowners, specifically seniors and those with disabilities, ensuring they can continue to live comfortable, safe, and independent lives.

“Guardian’s office in Appleton has been contributing to Rebuilding Together Fox Valley since 2005,” says Jacque Moriarity, Business Specialist, Group Business & Implementation Services, “and this was the fourth year in which we donated enough to sponsor a house and provided the volunteers to work on a Project Day.”

Floyd’s wife of 66 years passed away in 2011. Floyd’s son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sue, helped with the project.
