Guardian is committed to developing and offering programs and providing opportunities to help all employees be successful in their careers. Professional development at Guardian encompasses a culture of continuous learning, including leadership development and training and education.

New Hire Orientation

As a new hire at Guardian, you can expect to spend a full day learning about our organization – its rich history, culture and structure. In addition, you will learn about Guardian’s various businesses, including our flag shipflagship product, whole life insurance. Finally, we spend significant time reviewing all the benefits that are available to you as an employee.

Leadership Development

As an employee, there are a variety of leadership development programs and courses that are available to you.

President's Leadership Imperative (PLI) – is the cornerstone of executive development at Guardian and participation is by nomination only. This world-class leadership experience is a two-part, in-residence program and includes extensive one-on-one coaching that is designed to support and drive the ongoing development of Guardian’s senior leaders. The program focuses on developing leadership competencies through feedback, self-insight and ongoing executive coaching with the goal of raising individual, team and organizational performance.

Leadership Exploration and Discovery (LEAD) - is a program that is geared towards leaders with less than three years of leadership experience or who are new to Guardian. LEAD is a two-year journey filled with blended learning opportunities, multiple assessments and group coaching that develops leadership skills and competencies that ultimately drive higher employee retention, performance, and engagement.

Communicating with Impact - is geared towards mid-level leaders and focuses on building and delivering effective presentations and includes both individual and small group work. Participants use their own presentations and the feedback that runs throughout the course is customized to their individual style and presentation. This one-day workshop is meant to be the highest level communications course offered for mid-level leaders and has limited participants which allows for a large amount of individualized coaching and feedback.

Communicating with Presence - is a one-day workshop that focuses on the essence of how individuals are perceived by their audience when presenting. This workshop includes individual videotaping and therefore has a limited number of participants to allow for individualized coaching on the components of executive presence.

Guardian Learning Days
Formatted as a learning fair, these events showcase the various development opportunities and resources available to all Guardian employees. These events encourage employees to stop by, at their leisure, to learn about the various internal and external professional development resources that are available. Representatives from Guardian and our external vendors are on hand to discuss their product or service, share resource materials, and provide a forum for employees to ask questions and gain insight into the many resources our corporate partnerships provide.

E-Learning

Guardian strives to promote professional competency through the coordination and facilitation of quality training and development programs, including our e-learning offerings. E-learning at Guardian is used to deliver targeted, self-paced virtual training to employees to maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skill sets. As an employee, you can access a wide variety of e-learning courses on numerous individual and management topics by logging onto the Learning Management System (LMS) and selecting the interested course(s).

Performance Management

Guardian's performance management philosophy and process drives business and individual performance by providing our employees with an understanding of business objectives and performance expectations. It provides the necessary tools needed to engage in ongoing dialogue with management to insure associates are making progress against those objectives, and finally assessing what has been accomplished throughout the year.

Professional Affiliations

As part of Guardian’s continuous learning culture, we have professional affiliations with many learning and research organizations, including the American Management Association (AMA), the Institute for Management Studies (IMS), the Corporate Leadership Council (CLC) and the Conference Board. As a result, employees can attend webinars, conferences and seminars for either a reduced cost or at no charge.
