Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Risk and Operational Excellence

Robert E. Broatch is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Risk and Operational Excellence of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. In this role he works with executive management on strategic issues and opportunities, capital and enterprise risk management, as well as efforts to improve our major customer-facing processes. He leads financial management at Guardian, including planning and reporting, taxes, capital management, and banking and rating agency relationships. He also has responsibility for Guardian's Information Technology and Corporate Actuarial functions.

Mr. Broatch is a member of Guardian's Board of Directors. Prior to joining Guardian in July 2002, he held several senior management positions in the insurance industry, most recently as Chief Financial Officer at UNUM/Provident. Prior to UNUM, he was Senior Vice President of Finance at Aetna, and has also held finance positions with Primerica and Hartford Insurance Group.

Over the years, Mr. Broatch has participated and held leadership roles in several charitable, civic, and educational organizations. He has also participated in insurance industry and FEI professional activities.

Mr. Broatch has an undergraduate degree from Trinity College, an MBA in Finance from Amos Tuck and is also a CPA.
